Keyskills

The Instructors of Skillstart Ltd have been involved in the delivery of Keyskill qualifications for several years. (As Apprentice/National traineeship Instructors at QinetiQ Aberporth and for the last three years as Directors of Skillstart Ltd.)

The Vocational training that they organise and deliver can be very useful in the recognition of Keyskill qualifications.

Our awarding body is EAL (EMTA Awards Ltd.)

Working With Others.

Whilst undergoing training with Skillstart the candidate will gather naturally occurring evidence for “Working With Others” – (an essential component in the work based learning environment.)

The candidate will demonstrate the ability to work effectively “One to One” and as “Part of a team”.

Evidence is provided in the project reports, which will detail not only work undertaken but also the discussions and help offered and received during the project.

Instructor observations are also completed.

Problem Solving.

This is demonstrated time and again whilst undertaking the production of the set projects.

The basic details of the problem, how it was solved and who helped are recorded on a pro-forma project write-up sheet.

Improving Own Learning.

The NVQ curriculum that Skillstart has developed leads the candidate through the tasks and procedures and underpinning knowledge needed to gain an NVQ qualification. The candidate begins with fairly simple projects, which require a basic understanding of various technical aspects.

They are then given more demanding tasks, which demonstrate their ability to “Improve their own Learning” when they are required to utilise the skills gained on the simple project in the production of a more difficult project.

Showing the relevance of the improvement in terms of projects successfully completed evidences this.

The candidates are also actively involved in the planning of “next steps” toward the achievement of their qualification. They accept and respond to feedback on their progress and agree plans for further development.

Communication.

During their time with Skillstart candidates will be required to read and respond to “substantial documents” containing text, images, and numerical data. Where this is not demonstrated naturally, we have developed relevant tasks in order to satisfy this requirement.

All candidates are required to produce basic documents. (Job write-ups)

We have also developed suitable packages for the production of “substantial documents” as well as job-related presentations.

As most of these tasks involve “Communication” skills, the evidence provided is for the most part naturally occurring and would satisfy the qualification requirement.

IT and Application Of Number.

As well as the above both “IT” and “Application of Number” are delivered at Skillstart. The work is job related and involves a study of health and safety issues.

The AON evidence is part of the study and is presented using IT facilities and equipment. The findings of the study are used as part of the Communication portfolio when presented back to the group.

Delivery.

The keyskill qualifications could be delivered/evidenced as an enhancement to the current training arrangement for the trainees who attend “Engineering” as a subject.

Additionally:

It could also be offered to non-engineering candidates via timetabled “Work experience” sessions.

Whatever your requirements, we will be happy to discuss, and hopefully, contribute towards a solution which would be advantageous to all.
